CORTLAND – Lee R. Seiple, 77, from Cortland, entered Eternal Life on Friday, October 29, 2021.
Lee was born January 22, 1944 in Warren, son of the late William and Martha Bolton Seiple.
He graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1962, Youngstown State University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in education, and from Kent State University in 1967 with a master’s degree in education.
He began his teaching career as a social studies / mathematics professor and guidance counselor at Champion Middle School in Warren.
He quickly became the administrator of a high school at Bloomfield-Mespo in North Bloomfield. He returned to the local Champion Schools as Principal of Secondary School and Central Elementary School.
His career path led him to a new challenge as Supervisor of Trumbull County Guidance Counselors and Nurses, and as Superintendent of the local Bloomfield-Mespo and Mathews Schools. Lee served the students and parents of Trumbull County for 44 years and retired in 2012.
Lee graduated from Youngstown State University with a football scholarship in education and was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Lee coached football in the local Champion School District and spent many years coaching recreational baseball, softball, and football in the community of Cortland. He enjoyed participating in softball, bowling, card / game nights, camping and especially golf, where he looked forward to his annual golf trips to Florida. He cheered on his YSU Penguins, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He served his community by being a member of the parish council of St. Robert’s Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering with Cortland Area Cares.
Lee loved his family and friends and could often be found helping out with any home improvement. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife Becky and spending a family vacation with the families of Scott and Leigh Ann. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved to untangle fishing lines and attend as many sporting events as he could. He saw life as an opportunity to love BIG and give more.
Lee was a beloved husband and father. Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Becky Durig Seiple, whom he married on June 19, 1976; one son, Scott (Melissa) Seiple of Canfield; and her daughter, Leigh Ann (Daniel) Leugers of Hudson; grandchildren, Sophia and Sebastian Seiple, and Chase, Kendall and Anderson Leugers; sister, Barbara (George) Datish of Cortland; sisters-in-law, Joann Seiple of Warren, Annette Carnie of Youngstown, Felicia and Joseph Petrella of Tampa, Fla., Karen Marian of Youngstown and Mary Ellen Sliwinski of Niles; brothers-in-law, William (Karla) Pendant from Vienna and Robert (Lori) Durig from Warren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Lee was predeceased by his parents, William and Martha Seiple; his first wife, Joanne Marian Seiple; and his brothers, William, Samuel and Robert Seiple; sister, Joan Moyer; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Marian and William Carnie.
Family and friends can pay their respects to Lee from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, November 3, 2021, at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, and again from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning, November 4, 2021, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 4695 Niles Cortland Road, Cortland.
There will be a Christian Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Thursday morning, November 4, 2021, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Cortland with the Reverend Carl Kish as officiant.
Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Bazetta.
